Exclusive Financial Advisor to IDAK on the acquisition of frozen-goods bakery Kern & Sammet
On 30 January 2025, the IDAK Food Group (IDAK) announced that its subsidiary, Romer's Hausbäckerei, had acquired the frozen-goods bakery Kern & Sammet AG (K&S). Hansjörg Knecht is handing over his company, based in Wädenswil ZH, to Romer's Hausbäckerei, which is based in Benken SG, as of 1 February 2025. K&S is a high-quality manufacturer of frozen bakery goods and is therefore an excellent fit for IDAK's Romer's Hausbäckerei.

As part of the acquisition, IDAK was supported by IFBC as exclusive Financial Advisor. IFBC supported IDAK with Buy-Side M&A Advisory including valuation considerations and conducted the Financial Due Diligence.
The IDAK Food Group includes KADI AG in Langenthal and Margherita Srl in Italy, as well as Romer’s Hausbäckerei in Benken SG. The group makes it possible to make strategic acquisitions. IDAK’s aim is to further expand a strongly networked growth platform of specialized companies and manufacturers in the premium frozen food sector in Europe. IDAK currently consists of the three segments “Potatoes & Snacks”, “Pizza & Pizza Snacks” and “Baked Goods & Snacks”. In 2023, the Group employed around 1,000 people and generated sales of around CHF 250 million.
Kern & Sammet AG, a baked goods manufacturer based in Wädenswil in Canton Zurich, has been active for almost 50 years and enjoys an excellent reputation in the Swiss market. It produces bread, baked goods, desserts and snacks to the highest quality standards, with around 100 employees from 20 nations contributing to its success.
Founded in 1974 and specialising in frozen fine bakery products, Romer's Hausbäckerei has been part of the IDAK Food Group since mid-2023. The range of over 200 products in various convenience levels includes croissants, breads, rolls, sweet and savoury baked goods as well as desserts and cakes. Around 350 employees work in Benken, Canton St. Gallen, and Oberburg in Canton Bern. Together with its distribution partners, Romer's operates throughout Switzerland, holding a very strong market position and supplying several thousand hotels and restaurants, bulk buyers and retailers.
